Work
Dimension: Phase One
Maker Whitney LaMora · Work date 2025-01-02 · Medium telephone · Role work
Description
DIMENSION is a multi-phase project designed to explore paths not taken and the concept of parallel dimensions. Phase One is an interactive voicemail project that prompts the user to think of a time they were presented with a choice and invites them to explore curiosity around another dimension of reality in which they chose the opposite. Not necessarily an experience about regret, this project simply wants to explore another you who did things a little differently. DIMENSION, Phase Two will be a live 1:1 interactive experience taking place in Dorothy, a cocktail lounge located in Chicago's West Town neighborhood.

Anatomy
Thirteen criteria after Lauren R. Beck. Each carries a source grade: M maker-confirmed, P published, F first-hand, I inferred by the compiler, ? not yet established. Definitions are on the anatomy page.
- Participants listen through headphonesnoI
An interactive voicemail reached by telephone; a handset is not headphones and none are requested.
- Participants move through space as part of the worknoI
A voicemail interaction with no instruction to change location.
- Audio technology is necessaryyesP
The work is an "interactive voicemail project," so the phone is the whole delivery.
- Site-, situation- or language-specificnoI
Nothing about the voicemail requires a named place, circumstance or language; the Chicago venue belongs to Phase Two.
- Engages with the history of a sitenoI
Content concerns the participant's own past choices, not documented events of a real place.
- Created for an urban environmentnoI
A voicemail presupposes a phone line, not city infrastructure.
- Created as an artwork other than theaterunknown?
The maker calls it a "project" without naming sound art, game design or any other discipline.

Reflective prompting with no rules, objective or resolution state.
