Description
The HIVE Performance Collective is thrilled to announce HIVE 2021: Flight Paths, a series of theatrical journeys, from July 1-4, 2021. Flight Paths is a collection of twelve micro-performances that take place digitally between you and an artist from your own home, phone, or neighborhood. Audiences can participate from anywhere in the world. Flight Paths is a build your own adventure-style interactive journey, where each performance invites you to participate in a unique way. Sorted into four paths, audiences can experience a show by: Travel, Phone, Home, and Location. The paths will reimagine live performance as they invite audience members to do the same. You may receive a call from a friendly group of experts who will assess a part of your life, follow a set of instructions to physically lead you down memory lane, or you may travel through your neighborhood while imagining it as an

- Participants listen through headphonesunknown?
The collection mixes phone calls with travel and neighborhood paths and never states a headphone requirement for any of them.
Did you experience this? Tell us - Participants move through space as part of the worksometimesP
Paths are chosen by the audience: some run 'from your own home' or phone, others have you 'travel through your neighborhood'.
- Audio technology is necessaryyesI
All twelve micro-performances happen remotely between participant and artist, including calls, so the device carries the work.
- Site-, situation- or language-specificOptionalP
Location and Travel paths use the participant's own neighborhood, but the audience chooses among Travel, Phone, Home and Location, so specificity is available rather than required.
- Engages with the history of a sitenoI
'Memory lane' is the participant's own past, not documented events of a specific real place.
- Created for an urban environmentnoI
Audiences can participate 'from anywhere in the world' and a neighborhood need not be urban.
- Created as an artwork other than theaternoI
Framed by the maker as 'theatrical journeys' and reimagined 'live performance'; no other discipline is named.
- Intended to be understood as theateryesP
Listing uses 'theatrical journeys', 'micro-performances', 'experience a show', and 'audiences'.
- Accidental real-world sights and sounds are importantsometimesI
The neighborhood path has you 'travel through your neighborhood while imagining it as' something else, but phone and home paths carry no such outward direction.
- Spectator must participateyesP
Each performance 'invites you to participate in a unique way' and participants follow sets of instructions.
- Has live performers other than the participantsyesP
Performances 'take place digitally between you and an artist' and you 'may receive a call from a friendly group of experts'.
- Involves game playnoI
'Build your own adventure-style' is narrative choice with no stated objective or resolution state.
- Uses props other than the listening deviceunknown?
No physical materials are mentioned either way.
