Outpost Omicron
Maker Mirror World Creations · Work date 2021-01-22 · Medium telephone · Role work
Description
There’s been a murder in Outpost Omicron, the US Navy’s underwater base, and you’re the consulting detective who’s been called in to solve it. Literally “called” — you’ve got 90 minutes on the phone to interview the crew before atmospheric conditions disconnect you. There’s gossip to sort through, a blueprint to peruse, and camera footage (which of course they can’t send you). The scientists and crewmembers are counting on you: can you find the murderer in time? "Outpost Omicron" is a 90-minute experience done entirely by phone.

- Audio technology is necessaryyesP
It is “a 90-minute experience done entirely by phone.”

No site, named circumstance or language requirement is placed on the participant; the undersea base is fiction.

The setting is a fictional US Navy underwater base, not documented events of a real identifiable place.
- Created for an urban environmentnoI
A phone-only experience presupposes a telephone, not city infrastructure.
- Created as an artwork other than theaterunknown?
The puzzle structure suggests game design, but no maker framing or presenting context naming a discipline is given.
Did you experience this? Tell us - Intended to be understood as theaterunknown?
The listing uses “experience” and casts the participant as detective, with no theatrical vocabulary either way.
Did you experience this? Tell us - Accidental real-world sights and sounds are importantunknown?
The listing never addresses whether the participant’s real surroundings carry meaning.
Did you experience this? Tell us - Spectator must participateyesP
The participant must interview the crew and sort through the gossip to solve the case.
- Has live performers other than the participantsyesI
Interviewing a crew who answer the detective’s questions over 90 minutes requires humans responding in real time.
- Involves game playyesP
There are rules and a time limit (90 minutes before disconnection), an objective (find the murderer) and a resolution state (solved or not — “in time”).
- Uses props other than the listening deviceunknown?
A blueprint is “to peruse” but the listing never says whether it is a physical document or a digital file.
