The piece

A one-on-one call in which the participant is enlisted by a fictional Resistance. Made for the 2020 United States election; I called into it on 17 July 2026 at 9:00 AM, inside the window, and retain none of it.

What survives is the follow-up

She sent an aftercare email afterward, and that document is the third distinct offboarding solution in this research. Stepy Kamei writes a character into the fiction to ease you out. Thomas Darknell steps out of character and calls to decompress. Miklas hands you a written practice to carry forward: a voting plan, a five-minute meditation, a grounding token and a phrase to repeat, a ritual for afterward, and an instruction to write down in advance the names of the people you will call when you need steady ground, and to avoid those who feed on panic.

Why that matters here

It is the only offboarding I encountered that assumes the participant will need the piece again later, on a day the maker will not be present for. It does not try to complete the experience; it equips someone for the aftermath. For a work whose participant may not retain the call, a durable written artifact is the only form of aftercare that survives the condition — which is the same logic as Darknell’s pre-call form, running in the opposite direction.
